MidlandAdult EducationCentre delivers several high school credit courses on the World Wide Web.  These courses have been developed by the Distance Learning and Information Unit of Manitoba Education Training and Youth.
 
Teachers have chosen to mediate courses in their own areas of interest. Students must have access to the Internet (either at home or at the Centre) to complete these courses.
 
Speak to staff regarding availability and start dates.
 
 
In addition to the regular Math, ELA, Science, Law, Social Studies and computer credits delivered with print based material, the following courses provide practical options for earning a high school credit.
 
 
Management Skills 40S  ( 1 credit) 
 
Management Skills 40S involves both pre-employment orientation (approx 35 hours), and a work experience at a site mutually agreed on by student and sponsor (approx 75 hours) for a total of 110 hours. The pre-employment orientation provides an opportunity for students to identify and explore career options that coincide with that student’s skills and interests.   The student will create a portfolio of Real life experience provided through practicum serves to clarify career objectives, to establish professional relationships, and to develop employability skills. This course is a pre-requisite to all other Career Internship credits.
 
A second Career Internship credit can be obtained by updating the portfolio and completing 110 hours of work experience in one of the following areas: Business, Information Technology, Industrial Technology, or Human Services Technology. See staff for more information.
 
Customer Service Seminars
New to Midland Adult Education Centre is a series of seminars on Customer Service
Local business owners and managers will volunteer their time to conduct the seminars. 
Attendance at the seminars can be a component of Management Skills 40S or of another Human Services Technology credit. The series of seminars will be held once or twice a year. Please check with staff for schedule information. 
 
 
New Business Course
This self-paced entrepreneurship course is designed to take you through the stages required to develop and begin to operate a business. You discover what it takes to be a successful entrepreneur with a viable business and assess your own strengths and weaknesses in order to make good choices in operating your business. Please ask staff for further information.
 
 
Health Care Aid Certificate
Prairie Rose School Division and Regional Health Authority
The Health Care Aid Certificate program is a post-secondary course.   Participants completing the Health Care Aide program may apply up to five credit hours towards their high school graduation. This program commences in Carman in September 2009 and must be completed within 18 months. Please ask staff for further information.
